Work has commenced on a new GMP facility on the existing Hempire site. The facility, the first of its kind in the UK will cultivate cannabis for medicinal use to European GMP standards. Extraction and purification facilities are also being constructed.
Since 2014 Hempire have performed research and development using high THC varieties. During this time, cultivation techniques and equipment have been trialled and extraction and purification methods refined.
The company expect to achieve GMP certification on both cultivation and extraction/purification. This will enable them to supply API’s for use in CBMPs. The current facility is powered by renewables, once converted and certified it will serve as a model that can be upscaled into much larger cultivation and extraction centres that run on renewable energy sources and that the company have dubbed “Hypergreen Facilities”.
